GSMA promises “biggest ever” Mobile World Congress

Industry’s biggest trade show set to break attendee and exhibitor numbers, with a number of manufacturer’s expected to make product announcements

The GSMA Mobile World Congress 2014 is set to break all previous records, with 75,000 people expected to visit the world’s biggest mobile trade which kicks off on February 24.

The annual trade conference is for the second year running being held at the Fira Gran Via conference venue in Barcelona, running from today to February 27. Organiser the GSMA is expecting attendee numbers to be up by 3,000 compared to last year’s then record breaking figure.

It confirmed 1,800 companies will exhibit (up by around 100 from last year), with exhibitor space being increased from 94,000 sqm last year to 98,000 sqm this time.

Samsung, Nokia, Sony Mobile, HTC, Huawei and ZTE are all expected to launch new handsets whilst wearable technology, 4G deployment and initial talk about 5G will feature.

GSMA CMO Michael O’Hara said: “This will be the biggest Mobile World Congress ever and we are going from strength to strength. It’s clearly an event that still works.”
